Shawn Nystrand has been writing code since roughly the era when "logging on" meant listening to a modem scream at you for thirty seconds, and somehow he still hasn't gotten sick of it. Thirty years in web development will do that to a person — you either burn out or you find the stuff you actually love, and for Shawn that's PHP and Python, the two languages he reaches for when he wants to build something that just plain works. He's dabbled in Angular too, because a good developer stays curious even after three decades in the game, and he's fluent in the AWS toolset, which is a polite way of saying he can wrangle cloud infrastructure without breaking a sweat.

He didn't just show up as a "Senior Developer" one day — he earned it, climbing the ladder from Developer to Senior Developer to Lead Developer and eventually landing as Director of Software. That's the kind of trajectory that only happens when you actually understand the work at every level, not just the org chart version of it. It means when Shawn talks strategy, he's not guessing — he's been in the trenches, shipped the code, debugged the 2am production fire, and led the teams that did the same.

Outside of the keyboard, Shawn is unapologetically, proudly Canadian — the kind of Canadian who doesn't just tolerate winter but actively looks forward to lacing up for a good curling match. There's something fitting about a guy who loves a sport built on precision, strategy, and patiently sliding things into exactly the right place — turns out that translates pretty well to writing clean code, too.
